Slack messenger restricts work in Russia

Corporate messenger Slack began informing Russian users about the restriction of work in the country. The message says that the measures are being introduced for some customers in Russia, as the service seeks to comply with both international sanctions and the policy of the parent company Salesforce.

This should mainly affect organizations that are subject to direct sanctions. However, in the reviews in the App Store and Play Store, those who have nothing to do with the companies that have been hit complain about the limitations of working in Slack.

Many people write about the sudden closure of paid workspaces without the ability to make a backup. Even accounts paid for a year in advance are disabled.

According to Axios, disabled accounts are not deleted, but access to them will be blocked for the duration of the sanctions. Some users can simply be upgraded to a free plan with many restrictions.

Reports of problems with Slack began to appear the day before, on March 15th. One of the affected companies was Sberbank. Although its representatives have already reported that less than 5% of development teams used the service, and they have already switched to alternative products.
