How to update Android

These simple steps will always keep the operating system up to date.

How update Android

Each new version of Android brings both internal and external changes. This could be a simple redesign of the menu interface, or completely new power-saving algorithms. Small updates can close holes in user data protection or just fix small bugs.

Each OS update is an improvement, a step forward, new features and better optimization.

There are no useless updates. Even if you did not notice the difference before and after the firmware, changes in the code may well save you from a recent malware threat. Regardless of the scale of the update, it is definitely not worth ignoring it.

How to update Android automatically

Here, in fact, nothing special needs to be said. By default, all Android smartphones periodically check for updates in the background. You can check if the “Update automatically” checkbox is checked in the settings.

Usually, the “System update” or “Software update” option is hidden in the “System”, “About device”, “About phone” section, “MIUI version” or something like that, depending on the manufacturer.

If the manufacturer releases a fresh update, a notification will be displayed. You just need to touch it, then click “Update” and wait.

If you do not pay attention to notifications, the system will update itself when the smartphone is not in use. This usually happens at night. At the same time, the smartphone will not install updates if the battery level is insufficient – below 60%.

How to update Android manually

Sometimes it happens that even after the official launch of a fresh version of the system for your device, the desired update may be delayed. This is due to the fact that the distribution of updates over the air (Over The Air – OTA) is carried out systematically, gradually capturing more and more regions of the world.

In order not to wait until the new firmware becomes available on your smartphone, you can resort to updating in manual mode. You can check its presence in the same sections “System”, “About device” or “About phone”. On gadgets from different manufacturers, the update menu opens in different ways. Here are the most common ones.

  • Samsung.“Menu” → “Settings” → “Software update”. If there is no such item, tap “About device”, then “Software update”. Then click “Download and install”, “Update” or “Download update files manually” depending on which item is available to you.
  • Xiaomi. “Settings” → ” About Phone” → “MIUI version” (large icon with logo) → “Check for updates”.
  • Meizu. “Settings” → “System update”.
  • < li>Huawei. Settings → Update Tools.

  • Asus. Settings → System Update
  • < li>OnePlus. About Phone → About Device → Software Update

  • Sony. “Settings” → “About phone” → “Build number”.

On other smartphones, the names of the menu items are similar. When you open the updates section, click on the check button, wait a bit – and you will find out if it is possible to download the update right now.

Things to remember

In most cases, to install an update, your smartphone battery must be more than half charged, and sometimes not less than 80%.

Update files can be several gigabytes in size, so it is recommended to download when you have a fast Wi‑Fi connection. On many smartphones, there is even an option in the system settings that prohibits downloading the latest firmware over the mobile network.

Do not touch the smartphone during the installation of updates and do not try to reboot it manually while this process is ongoing, otherwise you risk breaking the device. Before each update, do not forget to backup and synchronize important files with cloud services.
