Beyond iOS 16 and watchOS 9 today introduced an updated OS for Apple computers: macOS Ventura.

It adds a “Scene Manager” – a mode that shifts all open applications to the left panel, resembling a second dock. One or more main applications remain in the center. Moreover, you can interact with the dock: for example, drag and drop files from the main application to one of the thumbnails in the right panel.

Spotlight search has been taught to perform simple tasks: for example, you can set a timer without opening a separate application for this. Standard Mail now supports delayed sending of messages, smart notifications (for example, when you wrote an email but did not receive a response), and auto-correction when searching in the application.

“The fastest browser in the world” (at least according to Apple), Safari now lets you share a group of tabs – and everyone in the edit mode can add or change something. In addition, the browser will allow you to get rid of passwords: Apple is implementing the FIDO standard, which was announced earlier together with Google and Microsoft. It will replace passwords with Passkeys, biometric authentication right on the device.

Also, Apple clearly wants to make the Mac more attractive to gamers: API support has been added to macOS Ventura Metal 3, which will make life easier for developers. The first fruits are already there: Resident Evil: Village will become available on macOS.

The system update will become available to users this fall. The first beta version is already available to developers, public beta testing starts in July.
