Earlier this week, Apple released an interim update to iOS 15.2 which added a lot of new features. Among them is the ability to reset the smartphone to factory settings if the user has forgotten the passcode.
If you enter the wrong passcode several times, the iPhone security system turned on: the password entry will be blocked first for a minute, then for 5 , and then to 15 if you continue to enter the wrong code. Along with the blocking for 15 minutes, a proposal to erase the iPhone will also appear on the screen. To confirm the action, you will need to enter the password for the Apple ID account to which the smartphone is linked.
By clicking “Erase device”, you confirm the deletion of all data and settings. After the reboot, the smartphone can be configured again and set a new passcode. If you have turned on Find My iPhone on your device, you will need to enter the Apple ID that the device is linked to and the password for it. After that, it will be possible to restore data from a backup in iCloud or on a computer.
Note that to reset the iPhone must be connected to Wi-Fi or mobile Internet – without this, you will not be able to enter your Apple ID.
Previously, to reset it, you had to connect your iPhone to your computer and reset it via iTunes (or Finder on macOS Catalina and later) – which is not very convenient, given that the smartphone had to be entered into DFU mode.
