Clarity is increased, resolution is increased, some damage is eliminated.

Tencent engineers have created an artificial intelligence (AI) service to improve the quality and restore old photos. The system is called GFP-GAN (Generative Facial Prior-Generative Adversarial Network).
The developers note that the technology combines information from two artificial intelligence models to fill in the missing details of the photo, while maintaining high accuracy and quality.
The system uses a pre-trained version of the existing NVIDIA StyleGAN-2 neural network model. Its fine tuning was aimed at preserving the “identity” of the person in the original photo, with special emphasis on facial features such as eyes and mouth.
Anyone can try the GFP-GAN demo for free.
