At the end of June, some users began to get access to the fresh Gmail design in the browser, but the large-scale distribution of the update has only just begun.
What's new
The main feature of the redesign is the “unification” of “Gmail, Chat , Spaces and Meet. All these web applications have now become much more convenient and accessible – with easy switching between them and flexible settings. Each opens in the same main window in the center of the screen.
Google has also changed the default color palette and added an email filter button that allows you to use a range of search options to refine your results. True, this function is not yet available to everyone.
Later this year, Google promises to add a redesign of the interface for tablets, improved emoji, new accessibility features and more.
How to turn off the new interface
To switch to the new interface, Chat in Gmail must be pinned to the left panel. If you don't have it there, then follow these steps:
- Open Gmail and in the upper right corner click on the “Settings” icon and select “All Settings”.
- At the top of the screen, select Chat & Meet.
- In the Chat section, select Google Chat and in Location, select Left of Inbox.
- Click Save Changes.
After the chat is displayed on the left panel, you can activate the new design :
- Open Settings again and under Quick Settings, click Try New Look.
- In the window that opens, click Reload.

That's it. Now all Google apps work as tabs with a single working window.
