The Locket app is gaining popularity in the App Store. This is a minimalistic social network for sharing photos – but only your friends and relatives will be able to appreciate them.
It was developed by UCLA graduate Matthew Moss to communicate with his girlfriend at a distance, but his acquaintances asked him to release the service, which he did January 1st. The app was spotted on TikTok, leading it to #1 on the App Store in the Social Media category, with over 2 million users worldwide.
The minimalistic service has only two functions: viewing photos and sending them. To register, you only need to enter a phone number and confirm it by SMS. After that, you can invite friends – a maximum of 5 people can accept the application.
After that, you need to install the Locket widget on your desktop. It is thanks to him that you can see new photos, since the service does not send notifications. To add a widget, hold anywhere on the desktop, and click on the “+” icon. Next, choose from the list of available Locket widgets and place it on the screen.
To send a photo, you need to use the built-in camera: the service does not support uploading images from the device, post-processing, and other functions of familiar social networks. Here you can only change the front camera to the main one and turn the flash on or off.
This photo will be displayed in a widget on your friends' smartphones, while you will have the last photo taken by you. To view all the photos, just swipe up from the main screen.
The service is completely free, it has no ads. It is only available in English, but this is unlikely to be a problem: the amount of text here is minimal.
