WhatsApp on its blog introduced communities, a new feature that allows users to unite separate groups under one roof and manage them more effectively.
This allows users to receive updates sent to the entire community and easily follow group discussions.
An example is the distribution of important information school principal for all parents of students in different grade groups.
Community admins will be able to send announcements to everyone at once and decide which groups to add to the community. All communication is end-to-end encrypted.
A number of improvements are also being made to the operation of WhatsApp groups themselves:
- Reactions will appear – this is the ability to respond to messages using emoticons without overloading the chat.
- Group admins will be able to delete erroneous and inappropriate messages from all chats.
- It will be possible to send files of the size up to 2 GB, which will greatly simplify the collaboration on projects.
- The number of participants in an audio call will increase to 32 people. The interface will also change.
These features will be added in the coming weeks, with the communities themselves due later this year. WhatsApp does not name the exact dates.
