As part of the WWDC 2022 conference, Apple officially announced iPadOS 16 for tablets. The system received the same improvements as iOS 16, and a number of other useful innovations for large screens.

In particular, the update will introduce the Stage Manager feature announced for macOS Ventura. With it, all open applications are conveniently shifted to the left panel, reminiscent of a second dock. Main windows remain centered.

You can share and edit tabs with others in the same Safari window, and you can edit documents via chat in iMessage. Users will be able to see who and how changes the file, and if necessary, immediately call.

The new Freeform application will allow you to use the drawing board – also for collaboration. It will be possible to draw on it, add photos, files, music or documents. All this will be seen in real time with the display of the video window.

Designers and everyone who works with images will appreciate Reference Mode, a new screen mode that allows you to check colors. And on the iPad with M1, the Display Zoom system will be available to scale the screen.

Game Center will be updated – it will show the activity of friends, there will be functions of joint matches and streaming, as well as the ability to use the service account to register in games.

Finally, the weather application will be updated for the tablet screen, which will now display much more data.

Apple emphasizes that developers brought iPadOS closer to desktop operating systems. There are many popular features that were previously only available on the Mac. These include, for example, viewing folder size on iPad and the ability to change file extensions.

iPadOS 16 will Available on iPad Pro (all models), iPad Air (3rd generation and above), iPad (5th generation and above), and iPad mini (5th generation and above). The release will take place in the fall.
