Samsung smartphones will have a new mode that will allow you not to reset your smartphone to factory settings before giving it to the service for service. It uses the previously announced Samsung Knox Vault technology to hide data from prying eyes.
Before visiting the service, it will be enough to activate the “repair mode”. This will restart the device in safe mode: only standard applications will be available to the mechanic. It will also be able to write temporary data needed for testing.
Personal data such as photos, contacts, call history and messages will remain on the smartphone, but you can return them, just disable this mode. To do this, it is enough to use a graphic key or a fingerprint. It will also delete temporary files that were created by the service.
So far, the function is only available for Galaxy S21 series devices in South Korea. Samsung notes that later the new mode will appear on other models. There is no mention of international availability in the announcement, but Korea may well become a test region where the feature will be checked for errors before being rolled out to all users.
