Users of Google's default Android messenger complain about fast draining and overheating of their smartphones. The problem usually occurs after sending photos to other users.
Tracking the culprit was possible thanks to the camera and microphone usage monitoring feature in Android 12. On the affected smartphones, Messages used the camera in the background. Probably due to a bug in the messenger, the viewfinder that opens along with the photo attachment interface does not close when the program is minimized.
