The feature is already being tested on iOS and Android. alt=”Whatsapp is bringing communities like Discord” />
WhatsApp is rolling out a new Communities feature to its Android and iOS test builds of WhatsApp. Thanks to this, it became known how it will look on both systems.
First mentions of this functions appeared back in November 2021, but now it is being more actively implemented in the interface. As WABetaInfo notes, in beta version 2.22.9.10 for Android, the location of the feature is similar to the beta for iOS: the Communities tab will replace the camera shortcut icon. On the iPhone, everything works exactly the same, except for visual differences in the arrangement of elements.
Communities are designed to bring together people with similar interests. This is not an analogue of group chats, but rather separate spaces within WhatsApp, in which it will be possible to create separate topics, and administrators will be endowed with more rights than standard chat administrators.
It is not yet known when the feature will be available to users of the stable version WhatsApp.
